WordPress provides an easy way to import all your website content whenever you are migrating from other platforms or whenever you are switching from multisite install to a single site install. But occasionally, you may face with a problem where all or some of your images are not imported and are still linked to the old sources. This situation sometimes may result in bad user experience.
Sure, you can manually edit all your posts or you can mess with MySQL quires.
But this is really inefficient and doesn’t make any sense when you have an easy way out. So in this quick guide, let us see how you can easily import external images in WordPress without messing around with advanced stuff.
Import External Images in WordPress
To import external images in your WordPress site, you can use a free plugin called Import External Images. This free plugin works flawlessly and automates the most tedious work of importing images. You can install it like any other WordPress plugin.
After completing the installation of the plugin, just click on the link “Activate Plugin” to activate the Import External Images plugin.
Once installed, head over the installed plugin settings page located at “Media -> Import Images.” Here you will see all the posts with images from external sites.
To import all the external images in your WordPress site, select the radio button “All images” and click on the button “Import Images Now” to start the import process.
As soon as you click on the button, Import External Images plugin will automatically download all the external images into your site. Along with that, the plugin will also edit the relevant image links in your posts so that they point to the image located in your WordPress site.
Depending on your posts and number of images, it may take a while to import external images. So, sit back and wait for the importing process to complete. Once the process is complete, you will see a message something like this.
But keep in mind that this plugin will only process 50 posts at a time and is also limited to 20 images per post. This limitation is put in place to avoid any execution errors.
So if you have more than 50 posts in your WordPress site then repeat the import process to import all the external images into your WordPress site.
That’s all there is to do and hopefully that helps. Do share your thoughts and experiences using the comment form below.
