It is a known fact that providing downloads to your website users is a lot of work. You may have invested a lot of your time and effort in creating and maintaining those free downloads.
So, why not ask your users or visitors to tweet about your site before downloading the file?
This increases your website exposure through the spread of word by your user. Moreover, it is like a win-win play and is generally called as Pay with Tweet or Social Payments.
In fact, this isn’t anything new, there are a lot of sites out there which request users to tweet or like before downloading the freebie.
So in this article, let us know how you can implement this pay with tweet button feature in your WordPress site.
Add Pay with Tweet Button
To add pay with tweet button, you need to download and install Pay with a Tweet plugin in your WordPress site. Once installed and activated, navigate to the “Configuration” tab located under the “Pay with a tweet” menu.
Here you need to enter your Twitter app’s consumer key and secret.
If you don’t already have a twitter app for your website, then follow along to learn how to create the Twitter app.
To create a new twitter app, head over to the Twitter Application Management page and click on the button “Create new app.”
Now enter your application details. As the callback URL, enter the URL that is being displayed in the plugin’s configuration page.
If you enter the callback URL wrong, then the application may not work as it should. Once you are done entering the details, click on the button “Create Application” to create the application.
Once the application is created, head on to the permissions tab and change the access type to “Read and Write” and click on the “Update settings” button.
Otherwise, the plugin can’t tweet on your behalf.
Now head over to the “Keys and Access Tokens” tab. Here copy and paste the both “Consumer Key” and “Consumer Secret” into the plugin’s configuration page.
Once you’ve done that, save the changes in the plugin page.
From now, you can upload files for which you want social payment. To do that, head over to the “Upload files” page and upload the desired files.
Once you’ve done that, you can now create a new Twitter payment button for that download.
To do that, navigate to the “New payment button” page, fill in all the details and select the file you want to integrate with the payment button.
If needed, you can also upload an image as per your requirement. Click on the “Create payment button” to create the button.
To add the payment button, go to “Manage your buttons” page, copy the shortcode and paste it in the post or page where the download should be.
That’s all there is to do and it is that simple to add social payment button in your WordPress website.
As a side note, please don’t over do it as it may annoy some users who don’t want to tweet every single time.
Hopefully that helps and do comment below if you face any problems or to share your thoughts and experiences.
